President's Blog - APRIL 2019

Dear SBSM Members,

Spring is the time for rebirth and renewal and the SBSM has been busy with our own regeneration plans. Major effort has been invested by the board and committee chairs to realign our committee infrastructure with the needs of our rapidly expanding society.   This includes proposals for new committees, updated and expanded committee mandates, increased chair responsibilities and streamlined reporting.   The goal is to strengthen our infrastructure, increase member participation and align individual talents with the increasing tasks of the society.

Various committees are working on a number of important projects that will be completed in the next few months.  The Membership Committee is finalizing plans for the SBSM reception and awards program to be held on June 9 in San Antonio.  All award recipients will soon be notified.  The Nominating Committee is currently vetting candidates for open board positions and ballots will soon be sent to all members.  All members are urged to participate in this very important process.  Finally, the Scientific Conference planning sub-committee has posted the preliminary program for our First Annual BSM Scientific Meeting.   They are currently reviewing and selecting abstracts and proposals for the final program.  The number and quality of poster submissions, symposia and workshop proposals have exceeded our expectations and highlight the incredible scientific work being done by the BSM community nationally and internationally!

Registration is now open for the First Annual BSM Scientific Meeting on September 12-15 in Birmingham.   Early registration is encouraged and spreading the word to colleagues and trainees will make this an extremely successful event.
