President's Blog - SEPTEMBER 2018

Dear SBSM Members,

The SBSM continues to grow in size and scope but continued growth will require a strong infrastructure as well as developing relationships with organizations that have similar interests. The SBSM has been working to strengthen our society by having discussions with committee chairs to determine areas needing more support as well as identifying potential new projects to meet our goals.  Also, the size of committees has been increased with the addition of a trainee position.   The board will be reviewing the comments and make adjustments as needed.

The SBSM is also engaging with other organizations to help disseminate our message, increase our visibility, and identify mutually beneficial opportunities for collaboration.  Currently the SBSM has representation on the APA Council of Specialties, is providing support to the BBSM and will be participating in the AASM summit.  Additionally, the 2019 BSM scientific meeting will bring together speakers, including keynote speakers, from a variety of backgrounds and organizations.  This will provide a broader perspective on topics related to our field and greater opportunity for future collaboration.  We are continuing to look for organizations that share our interests in order to find opportunities for collaboration

We encourage all members to provide input and ideas to help us meet these goals.  Ideas for new programs, opportunity for growth or ideas for the 2019 meeting can be submitted to the national office.  Also, some trainee positions on committees are still open and those who are interested may submit their letter of interest with current CV to kathryn@behavioralsleep.org.  Applications are being taken so please pass this information to trainees who may not be members of the SBSM.

With warm regards,
Donna Arand PhD
SBSM President
