University of Utah School of Medicine Postdoctoral Fellow, Behavioral Sleep Medicine, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine
The Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking highly motivated candidates for a post-doctoral fellowship position in behavioral sleep medicine.
The postdoctoral fellow will have opportunity to participate in basic behavioral and clinical research projects focused on sleep, circadian rhythms and cardiometabolic disorders. We seek applications from exceptional individuals with expertise in sleep, circadian rhythms and/or obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, appetite/weight regulation and other related areas.
Experience in sleep and circadian rhythms is not required but complementary expertise is preferred. Clinical training in behavioral sleep medicine and/or primary care psychology can be provided as part of the fellowship but is not required.
Positions are for one year with possibility of renewal for multiple years. The position is designed to prepare individuals for independent academic research or clinical research careers. Individuals selected for this position(s) will have opportunities to lead and/or co-author manuscript publications and share project investigator role in a manner commensurate with their experience and effort.
The primary supervisor for research and clinical activities will be Kelly Baron, PhD, MPH, DBSM but there will be opportunities to interact in multidisciplinary research and clinical teams.
1. Candidates must be able to perform self-directed research as well as work well with the PI and related project teams
2. Collaborate with Department of Family and Preventive Medicine research faculty across Divisions 3. Collaborate with faculty across the institution
4. Demonstrate effective communication skills: present research at national meetings and author manuscripts for publications in scientific journals
5. If desired, participate in clinical activities at the Sleep Wake Center or Family Medicine,
6. If needed, provide guidance to undergraduate and graduate students as part of the research team
Minimum Qualifications: PhD or other doctoral degree, preferably in psychology, counseling or health psychology. The applicant will have a demonstrated record of scientific accomplishment as evidenced by at least one first author peer-reviewed publication in a scientific journal.
Preferences: Advanced statistical analysis skills are preferred. Experience with data management and analysis for epidemiologic studies and large datasets. Women and individuals from populations underrepresented in scientific disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply.
Salary level is competitive and in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act for postdoctoral researchers effective December 1, 2016.
