As a member of The Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine you now have a great opportunity to support our field. We are calling for volunteers to serve on our committees and we encourage all members to consider taking an active role in your society.
By sharing your time and talents you can have greater impact on BSM and you can help the SBSM define its voice. Committee activity contributes to our broad and diverse goals including: identifying policy issues, crafting position statements, educating the public, developing our online relevance and training the next generation of scientists. We also need clinicians to help identify best practices for guidelines, course offerings and training opportunities.
We can use your talents in serving on the following Committees:
The mandate of the Accreditation Committee is to solicit new applications and carry out the accreditation procedures with the goal of increasing BSM training programs. The committee is responsible for monitoring these procedures and making recommendations for changes in the accreditation procedures and standards to the Board of Directors as needed. The committee will recommend to the Board of Directors accreditation status for these educational programs.
The mandate of the Education Committee is to develop and oversee educational programs of the SBSM. This includes developing and implementing programs for students of the society.
The mandate of the Membership Committee is to make recommendations to the Board of Directors related to the building and maintenance of the SBSM membership. The committee develops materials used to attract new members and suggests programs to retain existing members.
The mandate of the Practice Committee is to ensure the interests and needs of BSM clinicians are clearly identified.
The mandate of the Program Committee is to organize and oversee the educational, scientific and operational components of the SBSM conference.
Web & Communications Committee
The mandate of the Web & Communications Committee is to direct the creation and maintenance of a website that serves as a critical resource to SBSM by fostering efficient communication and transactions within and between the SBSM leadership, membership, staff and the public. The Web & Communications Committee strives to leverage web-based technology to support society business in a simple, cost-effective manner.
Science Advisory Committee
The mandate is to elevate the scientific profile of the SBSM, to encourage scientific activity among its membership, and to communicate scientific standards of behavioral sleep medicine to other organizations and to the public. This committee will advise the Board of Directors on matters related to science and will coordinate with other SBSM committees to advance a science agenda.
Interested candidates are reminded to consider the time commitment associated with volunteering on these committees which includes at a minimum, one monthly meeting.
To volunteer for the a committee listed above, please submit a brief letter of interest and a two page curriculum vitae (CV) by January 31, 2019 to Kathryn Hansen, SBSM Executive Director at email@example.com.
