FEATURED TRAINEE - CHRISTINA SO, MS
HOW DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN BSM?
My first full-time job after graduating with my undergraduate degree was at the Sleep Research Center at WRAIR, where I was involved with experimental sleep research. There, I became interested in how inadequate sleep adversely impacts emotion, as well as how sleep disturbance is a common symptom of psychopathology. This led me to pursue a position at the Center of Military Psychiatry at WRAIR, and ultimately to apply for doctoral programs focused on the intersection between sleep and mental health disorders.
WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER GOALS?
My ultimate career goal is to become a full-time clinical researcher with a focus on sleep disturbance and stress/trauma. I am also interested in continuing to work with active-duty service members and veterans, and would love to become certified in BSM.
WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE THE FIELD OF BSM IN 10 YEARS?
Would like to see the integration of BSM clinicians in healthcare facilities across the country. I would love to see clinical trainees receive sleep education in their curricula.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO AWAY FROM THE OFFICE?
When I’m not working on research, I like to bake, play piano, and hike/be outdoors!
