2018 SBSM Awards
Dear SBSM Members,
The Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine is accepting nominations and self-nominations for the following 2018 SBSM Awards:
- Peter Hauri Career Distinguished Achievement Award
- Arthur Spielman Early Career Distinguished Achievement Award
- Student Dissertation and Thesis Award
Descriptions for each award as well as application details and deadlines are provided below.
Peter Hauri Career Distinguished Achievement
Awarded to a member of SBSM who has made significant, sustained scientific contributions to behavioral sleep medicine or who has made significant, sustained clinical contributions to behavioral sleep medicine as exemplified by innovations in service delivery, dissemination, and public policy.
Arthur Spielman Early Career Distinguished Achievement
Awarded to a member of SBSM who is less than 8 years post PhD/PsyD/MD degree and who has made significant scientific contributions to behavioral sleep medicine.
Nominations for the Peter Hauri Career Distinguished Achievement Award and Arthur Spielman Early Career Distinguished Achievement Award must include:
- the nominee's curriculum vitae (CV)
- a nominating statement of no more than 500 words plus cited reference list when applicable
Nominations are due by 11:59 pm eastern time on March 4, 2018 and should be submitted to Kathryn Hansen in the SBSM Offices at email@example.com.
SBSM Student Dissertation and Thesis Award
Applicants must submit a 1-page summary of their dissertation or research project (which could be the abstract of the dissertation or thesis document), and a brief statement from their advisor attesting to the fact that the project represents the students own work and is the basis for either their thesis or dissertation. The project must have approval from the student's committee, but does not need to be completed to apply for the award. The abstracts will be judged on the following criteria:
- Theoretical background supporting the project
- Methodological rigor
- Significance of the findings to the field of BSM
To be eligible for the award, individuals must be a current Student Member of the SBSM. Application materials for the Student Dissertation and Thesis Awards must be submitted as a Word document or PDF and must be submitted by 11:59 pm eastern time on March 4, 2018 to Kathryn Hansen in the SBSM offices at firstname.lastname@example.org
Recipients for all three awards will be selected by the SBSM Awards Committee and awards will be presented in June at the SLEEP 2018 SBSM Membership Reception. Award recipients will be notified by March 31, 2018.
